This strawberry & blueberry smoothie is delicious. Aside from producing the most gorgeous, vibrant, purple colour, it is so delicious, and so good for you! Bananas are a wonderful smoothie base as they provide thickness to the smoothie and are naturally sweet. They’re also packed full of potassium and fibre, which keeps us feeling satisfied for longer. Berries are low in sugar and calories compared to most fruits so this smoothie is particularly awesome if you’re concerned about your waistline, sugar intake, and/or spiking your insulin levels! Strawberries & blueberries both contain antioxidants, are anti-inflammatory & anti-cancerous, keeping your tummy and body happy. Blueberries, in particular, are considered a superfood and have been found to improve cognitive function and memory. If you go ahead and add the optional cup of spinach (I really recommend that you do) you will gain a healthy dose of essential nutrients and minerals for absolutely no alteration to the taste and next to no calories; it’s a win-win! I like to use almond milk as my liquid as I find it adds a delicate, nutty flavour, but you can use any dairy or non-dairy milk you please. Maca is an awesome addition if you have it to hand as it simply gives you a real energy boost, which we could all do with in the morning! I often make this smoothie to-go when I am in a rush, but if I have time to sit down and eat then I really love making it into a more wholesome meal by making a smoothie bowl and adding loads of toppings (Strawberry & Blueberry Smoothie Bowl), but both are equally delicious.
